REPORTED OUTCOMES

What the Programme Reports

Official programme reporting indicates substantial expansion of Nigeria's CNG transport ecosystem, including more than 120,000 vehicle conversions, over 400 certified conversion centres and more than 90 CNG refuelling stations. The programme also reports technician training, employment generation and deployment of CNG and electric vehicles as part of its wider clean-mobility strategy. In March 2026, the federal mandate was expanded to formally include electric vehicles and EV charging infrastructure.

INDEPENDENT EVIDENCE

What the Available Evidence Shows

Independent evidence on the programme's long-term effects on household transport costs, vehicle operating costs, employment, emissions and sustained adoption remains limited in the sources reviewed. Current evidence is predominantly programme and government reporting, so reported outputs should be distinguished from independently measured long-term outcomes.

VERIFICATION NOTES

Current programme information was checked against Pi-CNG & EV and State House sources in September 2026. Headline figures are programme/government-reported and should be read with their reporting dates and definitions. Different official pages report different historical figures for conversion centres, stations and programme targets; these figures should not be added together or treated as simultaneous measurements. The March 2026 expansion formally extended the Pi-CNG mandate to include electric vehicles and EV charging infrastructure.

LIMITATION

The available evidence is predominantly government and programme reporting. Independent longitudinal evidence measuring sustained effects on household transport expenditure, operator profitability, employment, emissions and vehicle-owner retention remains limited in the sources reviewed. Some official programme pages also use different reporting periods and definitions, so individual figures must be interpreted in context rather than combined into a single cumulative total.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions People Ask

Clear answers about the programme, eligibility, delivery, application process and how to access support safely.

What is Pi-CNG & EV?

The Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles (Pi-CNG & EV) is a federal clean-mobility initiative covering CNG vehicle conversion, refuelling infrastructure, CNG-enabled transport and the development of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure.

Who can benefit from the programme?

Vehicle owners and operators can access applicable CNG conversion programmes through certified conversion centres. Commercial and ride-share operators may also qualify for specific incentives, while eligibility varies according to the particular programme or intervention.

How do I convert my vehicle to CNG?

Use a Pi-CNG-certified conversion centre and have the vehicle assessed and converted by qualified technicians using approved automotive CNG equipment. Do not use informal technicians or improvised cylinders and components.

How much does CNG conversion cost?

There is no single conversion price for every vehicle. Cost varies according to vehicle type, kit specification and the applicable programme. Subsidised or supported conversion options may be available through government programmes and financing arrangements.

Where can I find a certified conversion centre or CNG station?

Use the official Pi-CNG & EV network directories and map to locate certified conversion centres and CNG refuelling stations. The current network includes facilities across multiple states, with the official station directory listing 91 stations across 23 states.

Is CNG conversion safe?

CNG conversion must be carried out using approved automotive components at an accredited conversion centre. Vehicle owners should never use fabricated, expired or unauthorised cylinders or components. The Pi-CNG & EV programme has specifically warned motorists against unsafe conversions.

Does Pi-CNG & EV guarantee that I will save money?

The programme reports that CNG can reduce fuel and operating costs, but actual savings depend on factors such as vehicle type, mileage, fuel consumption, CNG availability and the price paid for CNG. Programme-reported savings should therefore not be treated as a guaranteed amount for every vehicle owner.
